Milwaukee Makerfest – October 19th 2013

Milwaukee - Makerfest - Logo

Celebrating people who make and the curiosity and creativity that drives them.

On October the 3rd, Milwaukee Makerspace reached their Kickstarter goal of $3,200 to fund what might be southern Wisconsin’s very first celebration of science, engineering and all-purpose hacking. The success of their Kickstarter campaign shouldn’t be much of a surprise to anyone, considering the likes of Harley-Davidson, Johnson Controls and General Electric have all had ties to the drunken metropolis known as the City Of Festivals. It was only a matter of time before Milwaukee’s independent thinkers came together to have a festival of their own.

Enter Milwaukee Makerfest.

Their site reads, “Part science fair, part county fair, and part something entirely new, Milwaukee MakerFest is an all-ages gathering of tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, artists, students, and commercial exhibitors. All of these “makers” come to Milwaukee MakerFest to show what they have made and to share what they have learned.”

That sounds great and all, but what will I see?

– A 3-D printer which can print full-size human skulls using data extracted from CT scans

– A DIY suitcase modular based around Raspberry Pi

– Voxel Metric 3D Scanner to take home a mini printout of yourself

– DIY guitar effects/pedals

– Lazer cutters

– A huge industrial robot arm

and possibly a giant fucking speaker you can climb into:
